Ive been driving since......well lets' just say I've been driving a long time. Every vehicle I've ever driven has had an engine block heater but I seldom use them unless the vehicle is an old clunker with a lot of miles on it.

I'm finding lately that my vehicles will still start even at minus twenty & below temps but it takes forever to warm up the interior. So I'm starting to plug in the 2010 Patriot even though it isn't even a year old yet.

We're cheap and don't want to spend the electricity LOL
For me, its not much of an issue...the little 4banger warms up pretty quick...the GF uses the WJ and probably has cold feet until she gets to work....'bout 15km away...so can't complain too much lol

I find it not really to get the heat inside the vechile that makes the different its more to heat up the oil inside the motor so that its not as thick on first start up it get to the top of the motor quicker without running dry its better on the battery it take less energy to crank the motor
I have a 09 liberty and an 05 TJ and had older cars before and every winter it get plug all the time and all night if it at 0 celcius or -30 no matter what

A block heater will not warm up the oil by the way. Just the coolant. So your oil is just as thick on start up. But since the block is warmer on start up and gets to operating temperature quicker, the oil will also warm up quicker. But on start up the oil is just as thick.

Me i dont plug either cars. I know the grand as a block heater but i doubt he mazda does. Im just too lazy or i forget or its too cold to stay outside one extra minute to plug it. Lol!

Your post has me thing Gomer. I remember seeing somewhere a heater that has a magnetic base. Stick it to your oil pan at night and in the morning you have nice warm thin engine oil.

Does anybody remember the battery blankets? You used to be able to buy them from Cdn Tire. Now only specialty shops sell them.

There are magnetic oil heater. But i wonder how long it would stay on the oil pan. You would only have to plowthrough a snow bank anf its gone.
